Lower Penhallow Farm
England: South West: Cornwall: Ruan High Lanes
4 Star
Idyllically situated in the heart of The Roseland, just a mile from Pendower Beach on the south coast of Cornwall.
Until 1996, the barn was used for housing cattle and sheep but was transformed in 1997 to make two holiday units and refurbished in 2008."Mallard" is ideal for couples or groups of up to four people, "Shelduck" can accommodate up to six people. Alternatively, extended families may take both units for a special reunion of up to 10 people. And, out of the high season, we are happy to let the larger unit to smaller parties if the small unit is already booked. "Mallard": Downstairs there is one double bedroom, one bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. Upstairs is the living room, a combined kitchen and dining area and second toilet. "Shelduck" four bedrooms and sleeps six people. The bathroom with bath/shower and toilet is downstairs, together with three bedrooms: one single, one twin and one with two single beds. Upstairs is the double bedroom with its own en suite shower/toilet, combined kitchen, dining and living room. Both units look out across the gravel farmyard to beautiful countryside to the south. We are located out of earshot of main roads but you may hear the occasional tractor, the postman or birdsong, and at night there is often a view of the night sky seldom seen in built-up areas. Pendower Beach is just one mile away and a ten-minute walk will bring you to the nearest bus stop, and a variety of village pubs and shops are within a couple of miles.
Garden / Grounds: There's usually plenty of space for children to play football or cricket, and grass or stubble fields where dogs can be exercised. Children are welcome to assist feeding our ponies, cows and chickens each morning, and collecting eggs later.
Views, wildlife and local environment: The Roseland is an excellent location for a peaceful holiday, with sandy beaches, small villages, boating, fishing and birdwatching opportunities, and plenty of coastal and inland footpaths for the walker, away from visitor hotspots elsewhere. Visitors include mallard, little grebe, Canada geese, shelduck, teal, swallows and swifts, moorhen, heron, warblers, buzzards, kestrels and occasionally visiting swans, and nesting barn owls.
