Primrose Cottage, Sandwich
England: South of England: Kent: Sandwich
In the heart of medieval Sandwich on the East Kent coast
Primrose Cottage offers charming self-catering holiday accommodation in the heart of medieval Sandwich. It is perfectly suited for a quiet break for a couple or small family. Despite dating back to the 17th century, its comprehensive facilities provide comfortable two-bedroom accommodation for four people. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. The cottage boasts a wealth of period features including an inglenook fireplace, oak beams and pine panelling. It is compact, cosy and quirky with restricted headroom in some places. There are two bedrooms: a double and a twin. The twin bedroom is up very steep stairs, making it unsuitable for young children or old people. Facilities include gas central heating, fridge, oven and hob, microwave, televisions, DVD players, washing machine and tumble dryer. Linen is included. A cot and high-chair are available on request. Furnishings are tasteful throughout with lots of the owners’ personal touches. In winter the log burner creates a welcoming atmosphere. On a sunny day the secluded courtyard provides a great place to sit outside. Parking is available on-street or in nearby car parks. Sandwich is one of the ancient Cinque Ports, which provided ships and men for the British navy in the Middle Ages. Among its many attractions are narrow streets with half-timbered houses, river, quayside, historic gardens and an interesting variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The nearby public library offers wi-fi access. All these amenities are right on the Primrose Cottage doorstep. The mainline railway station is 8 minutes’ walk. Boat trips may be taken from the quay or you can stroll the Old Town Walls Walk to see the former moat and ramparts. Unspoiled Sandwich Bay (3 Km) is a must. Within a 12-mile radius are several castles, the cathedral city of Canterbury, the white cliffs of Dover, the North Downs area of outstanding natural beauty, numerous beaches and the seaside towns of Deal, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. For a longer day out, why not take the train to London or hop across the Channel to France or Belgium?
Garden / Grounds: Small, enclosed courtyard to the rear of the property with garden table and chairs.
Views, wildlife and local environment: River 200 metres away. Nature reserves, seals and bird observatory at Sandwich Bay. Long shingle and sand beach 3 Km. Sandy beaches 12 Km.
