Poole
Guide supplied by Mrs Patricia Smith, owner of Pinetop Cottage, Poole, Dorset.
This is such a diverse and beautiful area. Poole Harbour is stunning and wonderful for sailing, kayaking, fishing, surfing or going on a boat trip to Brownsea Island or up the river to Wareham. The Quay and Old Town is full of restaurants and pubs. Sitting outside one of the cafes having a morning coffee watching all the comings and goings of the boats is very relaxing. The Isle of Purbeck has a marvelous stretch of the Coastal Path and you can walk as far as you like. Start at Swanage, walk to Worth Matravers and then feel free to catch the bus back. One of the lovelist beach walks is from Shell Bay to Studland. I park my car near Sandbanks Ferry on the road(free) and then take the ferry across to Shell Bay (90 pence return, what else costs under £1!) Dogs are allowed on the beach out of season but can be walked along the shoreline all year. Corfe Castle is great to wander round no matter what time of year and Swanage is one of those old fashioned family seaside towns. On the way call in at Wareham. Wimborne is a lovely market town with the added bonus of nearby Kingston Lacey House. If you fancy shopping then Poole has a whole variety, not forgetting Bournemouth.
